Innovation of the Month: More safety on the road through reliable use of data

We are halfway through the Innovation of the Month, a way for innovators to secure early recognition for their projects under the Awards program. By receiving the Submission of the Month award, the innovator automatically becomes a nominee. This January Efma Accenture Innovation of the Month is the ANWB (Royal Dutch Touring Club) Trusty Driving Information Mission (ASDD), an initiative that motivates prospects to do better while improving road safety.

Insurers are increasingly enjoying a job in improving society at dapper. The act of assessing and preparing for threats doesn’t serve the customer very well, but it can circulate behavioral adaptations that will potentially change communities for the better. As the insurance company of the ANWB, Unigarant probably improves road safety in the Netherlands in every respect. The ASDD mission provided an opportunity to do this effectively.

ANWB Trusty Driving Insurance was introduced once in 000. This associated usage insurance protection initiative rewards prospects for safe usage by charging a usage fee. The speed of use, in turn, ends with a discount on their maximum charge.

To calculate the speed of use, dawdling, cornering dawdling, acceleration and braking are measured. This act of dimension alone led to tangible trade. By adhering to their usage ratings, people taller than 000.000 are, to reliable drivers within the last five years. Together they have driven more than a trillion kilometres, which has resulted in valuable data and insights that nonetheless affect road safety in the Netherlands.

Marin Roos, Chief Innovation Officer at Unigarant, says: “Younger drivers have confirmed that they are a really valuable improvement as they are the most responsive to feedback. People are shocked at the lengths we go to to serve them more catch. We started a pilot not long ago where we are actively nominating people to educate them about their use as an additional provider in addition to in-app feedback. The principal results are very promising.”

At a macro level, the data can even be used by road managers to gain insights into unhealthy roads, intersections or different visitor scenarios.

Roos adds: “The benefit of this initiative is the true fact that the data is a derivative of the ANWB Power Trusty insurance cover and no longer the most important company case. This allows us to fabricate nameless, customer-authorized data at a low cost for road/visitor managers, thereby contributing to a safer environment on the roads.”

For example in 2020 The insurer carried out a pilot test with the city of Rotterdam. Their visitor department carried ASDD data to counterpoint their visitor dummy to get a screeching analysis of city streets. The pilot became winning once. Not only has the city received a slew of health issues, but it also has a clear vision of what the issues are and how safety can seem to be improved. This resulted in a number of improved visitor scenarios.

The success of the pilot project encouraged the ANWB to collect the data available to all road operators in the country and the cooperation with Rotterdam will continue. As a result of this success, more and more governments are reporting that they would continue using the ANWB data and this year over a hundred road management organizations have access to the ASDD.

For insurers, Marin advises those who want to pursue a similar initiative: “You have to have an excellent command of your motivation at the outset. From the outset, we were clear with our prospects about our intended use of the data. Second, the ANWB Power Trusty Insurance initiative proves that capturing a commercial offering that has a public benefit is miles feasible. All it takes is for you to learn about your product from a variety of perspectives for the pattern interval.”

Here is a thought-provoking example of what can happen when public, collaborating commercial and advocacy events for the facts of communities. Congratulations to Unigarant on their groundbreaking innovation. Submit for the awards.
